We did not know this, but children under six years old can have febrile convulsions (a type of fit) if their temperature changes too quickly. This is common, particularly when suffering from a viral infection, and about 3% of children will have at least one. After the event, when talking to friends and relatives, many people recalled similar tales.
During the night of house moving day, Abigail was very poorly with sickness. The following day ended at the hospital after we had to call an ambulance because Abigail had a seizure. At the time, we did not know what was happening and feared the absolute worst. The ambulance was prompt and the medics were brilliant. We were reassured that Abigail had had a febrile convulsion and it was perfectly normal and she would be fine. We were taken to the hospital and kept in overnight to make sure she was alright.
I found it very scary not knowing what was happening or what to do.
If you have children under six years old, I strongly urge you to read about febrile convulsions: BBC Health and NHS Direct
